Non-government messengers making deliveries to chambers will be directed by Court Security Officers (CSOs) to the loading dock. At the loading dock, the item will be screened by a CSO and screened again by mailroom staff in the mailroom; these items will be treated the same as FedEx/UPS deliveries and will be delivered to chambers after being screened.
Non-government messengers making deliveries to public areas, such as clerk’s offices and court reporters’ offices, will be screened when entering the courthouse. Non-government messengers may also pick up documents and packages from public areas.
U.S. or D.C. Government Messengers
(e.g., employees of the U.S. Attorney's Office, Federal Public Defender, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, or D.C. Attorney General's Office)
Messengers who are U.S. or D.C. government employees will be screened by CSOs when entering the courthouse and are permitted to deliver directly to chambers as well as to the clerk's offices and other offices in the building. U.S. or D.C. Government messengers may also pick up documents and packages from public areas.
Deliveries After 5:30 p.m. or on Weekends
If a messenger (non-government or government) has a delivery to chambers and arrives at the courthouse after 5:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday) or on the weekend when the loading dock is closed, the CSO at the 3rd Street entrance (the only public entrance open at the time) will call chambers to ask if a delivery is expected. If so, the CSO will screen the package and another CSO will deliver the item to chambers. If no one is in chambers, the CSO will screen the package and the messenger will place the item in the 24-hour filing box to be delivered to chambers the next day.
Deliveries to public areas when they are closed will be screened by CSOs and the messenger will place the item in the 24-hour filing box to be delivered the next day.
